Mixed Media/Abstract I
We explore how to get started creating an abstract painting. We do warm up/inspirational exercises. Students will learn about various mediums and how to apply and use with mixed media such as paper, fabric, found objects. Basic composition, mark making and color will be explored. Students will leave with several completed projects. We will be working flat, no easels.

Mixed Media/Abstract II
For students who have taken the first Abstract/Mixed Media class or students who have some experience. We will build on skills learned in the first class especially regarding composition. mark making and inspiration. We will delve into concepts of constraints, value, and contrast. We will work in a series and students will come away with several completed projects as well as starts to explore in their own studio. We will be working flat, no easels.

This three-hour workshop is designed to allow participants to create a painting of a flower or grouping of flowers. The style, demonstrated by the instructor, will follow botanical drawing format, with an initial drawing, and application of watercolor. The flower(s) will stand alone on the page with a white background. The participant will choose a subject from flowers provided by the instructor.
Linda Stewart Henley has focused on painting wildflowers for the past fifteen years. She usually works on site. Her works have been exhibited at botanical gardens connected to the University of Washington and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and at the San Francisco Botanical Garden. She also shows her work at various venues in Skagit County.
